Abstract

Typical products generated during aging/degradation of cellulosic materials are carboxylic acids (e.g. formic, acetic), esters, ketones, cyclic oxygen compounds (e.g. furfural), sugars, phenolic compounds and many other volatile organic compounds. A wide set of physico chemical and analytical methods were applied to evaluate the degradation processes. The present work is focused on the chromatographic methods (RP-HPLC, IEX, SEC, GC coupled with advanced detectors) to separate and determine the degradation products of cellulosic materials.
