Abstract

A new approach, which reduces the impact of rate and extent of nanoparticle agglomeration on results of aquatic toxicity tests, is proposed. A variable rate of periodic exchange of colloidal solution was used to control the maximum size of agglomerates in liquid medium prepared according to OECD 203. The exchange frequency is derived from the time dependence of the medium agglomerates size for two nanoparticle concentrations. The proposed method was checked in the ecotoxicity test of non-stabilized 40-nm Ag nanoparticles performed with Cyprinus carpio embryos.
