In Czechoslovakia, the first contributions to the development of the theory and instrumentation of analytical electrophoresis appeared in the 1960s. The beginnings of the development of analytical electrophoresis at the Institute of Analytical Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic in Brno date back to the early 1970s, when lab-made apparatus was constructed. Since then, much work has been done there on the theory and methodology of capillary isotachophoresis and zone electrophoresis, their combination, linkage with mass spectrommetric detection, and practical application. This workplace has gained international renown and it was called the Brno Electrophoretic School. This article provides information on the main research topics of the Brno Electrophoretic School.
