In analytical chemistry, there has been a recent trend to develop fully automated systems that can operate at high speed, analyze a large number of samples and provide analytical results with high trueness, accuracy and precision. The batch injection analysis (BIA) technique, which is based on the already well-known flow injection analysis (FIA) technique, meets these requirements very well. Moreover, it provides additional benefits over FIA, such as avoiding pump problems or completely eliminating consumption of the carrier medium. The aim of this review is to introduce the BIA technique and its main advantages in the determination of inorganic and organic compounds to the general public. It also seeks to highlight the crucial role of electrochemical detection, which has become the predominant type of detection in BIA publications in recent years.
