Abstract

Forty samples of salivary stones were studied by IR spectroscopy, SEM, DTA and X-ray powder diffraction. A procedure for their analysis was developed. Micro- and nanometric spherical particles were observed on the stone surface, which indicates their gradual growth. The mentioned methods have proved the same hydroxyapatite composition of the studied stones. 63 % of them contained various toxic metals such as Pb, Ti and Zn. The presence of metals on the stone surface proved the negative effect of environmental pollution on human health.
