Abstract

Porous zeolite foams prepared by alkali activation of natural zeolite were studied. Alkali activation of natural zeolite by mixed KOH and sodium water-glass activator, together with an aluminium powder foaming additive, leads to the production of solid heat-resistant materials with macroporous foam structure. Post-synthesis modification by acid leaching cleaned pores in foams reduced content of accompanying elements, and generated a foam material with open porosity suitable for application of oxide layers to improve its properties. In the present work, layers of Al2O3, TiO2 and SiO2 were deposited on this basic material. Their textural and morphological parameters, as well as CO2 sorption properties, were studied on alkali activated zeolite foams. Based on obtained results it can be said that the prepared samples show good mechanical and textural properties, and are potentially usable in catalytic and sorption applications.
