Abstract

The paper presents topical knowledge on geochemistry of natural solid bitumens within the complex process of crude oil generation, expulsion, secondary migration, entrapment, reservoir destruction and oil degradation. The detailed study of the chemical composition of natural asphalts and its correlation with that of crude oils enables one to prospect oil in oil bearing rocks more efficiently.
