Abstract

Application of gold, its thin films and nanostructures in sensor technology is very widespread. Its use ranges from electrodes and catalyzers in semiconductive sensors to sensitive layers in optical sensors, where the surface plasmon resonance phenomenon is employed. Properties of gold play a key role in its application – high electrical conductivity, catalytic properties, chemical stability and specific optical properties. Thanks to these facts, gold acquired a very important position in the sensor technology as a useful material and its application has recently been a subject to a very thorough research.
