Abstract

A drug may have several different types of names: trivial name, code designation or drug code number, generic name, national and international non-proprietary name, chemical name, pharmacopoeial name and company name (brand name, or trade name). Each of these types of names conveys specific purposes and contexts a drug may be used for. Attention is primarily paid to pharmacopoeial nomenclature of drugs.
