Abstract

The hazardous toxic chemical substance – liquid ammonia is widely used as a cooling medium in about 500-600 food industry facilities and 155 ice stadiums in the Czech Republic. Even a small accidental leakage could be very dangerous for people in the vicinity of risk sources. Consequences of small leakages of ammonia were modelled and confronted with existing legal instruments. A new approach is suggested for a special emergency plan for facilities with dangerous amounts of liquid ammonia, which are, however, below legal limits.
