Although the existence of small molecules of RNA that do not encode any amino acid chain has been proven two decades ago, their significance and extensive effect on cellular processes is still amazing. Many new studies focused on finding new non-coding RNAs and the clarification of their functions in the organism are continuously published. This paper summarizes the current knowledge of small non-coding RNAs and their functions, both in prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms.
