Abstract

Twenty-four samples of steering wheel covers have been analyzed for dibutyl (DBP) and bis(2-ethylhexyl) (DEHP) phthalates. The phthalates were determined by HPLC. The first analysis was performed immediately after vehicle purchase second analysis after five-months storage. The phthalate contents significantly decreased in the meantime. Phthalates are carcinogens and toxic to animals So far neither the Czech nor EU legislation have dealt with these problems.
