Abstract

The work was aimed at finding an appropriate method of isolation of carotenoid dyes from Rhodotorula glutinis and Rhodotorula mucilaginosa yeasts. Seven isolation methods involving only chemical cell disruption were examined. The methods were evaluated spectrophotometrically (at 455 nm). The best method utilizes DMSO for cell disruption followed by organic solvent extraction. This method gives results comparable with those found in literature.
