Liquid-Liquid Extraction of Phytosterols and Other Valuable Compounds from Tall Soap

Abstrakt

The sulfate process of wood pulping provides vast amounts of waste tall soap which is used at present mainly as the energy source for pulp mills. However, some substances released from wood proved to have a beneficial or therapeutic effect. Tall soap obtained from seven sulfate processes were investigated for their content of valuable components, in particular phytosterols. Tall soaps from different pulp mills afforded materials in different amounts and quality.
