Nanomechanical Characterization of Multilayers for the Solar Power Concentrating Systems

Mechanical properties and adhesion of absorbing multilayers used in concentrating solar power systems (parabolic trough solar collector technology) were investigated using indentation and scratch measurements. It was found that the top antireflective layer serves as a good protection against high temperature oxidation. Only a slight effect of accelerated ageing tests on hardness and Young´s modulus was observed. Cohesive and adhesive properties of the coating found after performing accelerated ageing tests were even better than those found before them.
