A new multifunctional apparatus employing IR spectrometry was used for determination of permeation and sorption of organic vapors and their binary mixtures in flat sheet polymer membranes. IR spectrometry allows rapid and accurate determination of the grain content or loss of substances. The advantage of this approach becomes apparent when compared with conventional permeation (time lag) or sorption (gravimetric) methods. The new method enables parallel monitoring of the composition.
