Characteristics of Barley Malt by HPLC

A fast and sensitive HPLC for simultaneous determination of vitamin E, carotenoids and ergosterol was elaborated. The method includes alkaline hydrolysis, extraction with an organic solvent, chromatographic separation and detection with a photodiode-array and fluorescence detector. The analytes were separated by HPLC using acetonitrile as a mobile phase. The method was validated and applied to malt analysis.
