The focused beam reflectance measurement (FBRM) laser was used for optimization of ergotamine tartrate crystallization. It was found that the solvent-mediated polymorph (A–D) transformation occurs at ca. 0 °C and results in a significant change of chord length distribution caused by different shapes of crystals of both polymorphs. FBRM was used for preparation of ergotamine tartrate, polymorph A of good physical quality.
