Attention is paid to fibrinogen because it is involved in many physiological and pathological processes, some of which may be life-threatening. This review summarizes recent findings about the fascinating macromolecules. The reader finds biochemical, physicochemical and physiological data about fibrinogen structure, biosynthesis and degradation and becomes acquainted with the fibrinogen-to-fibrin pathway.
